The Pontiac Business Institute at >Cimarron has met requirements of Title 70. Sections 21-101 et seq. of the Oklahoma statutes for licensing private vocational schools offering vocational courses in Oklahoma. Pontiac has been granted a Private Vocational School License (#5109) and is authorized to provide approved course work.
Description: The purpose of this program is to prepare students for employment in today’s automated offices. This program also provides supplemental training for persons previously or currently employed in office occupation.

Description: The purpose of this program is to prepare students with entry-level skills in nursery operations, including horticulturist, chemical applicator, nursery worker, tree trimmer and grower, or agriculture equipment operator.

Students entering all education programs are tested using the T.A.B.E. (Test of Adult Basic Education). They are then appropriately placed by the Principal and Education Counselor. A student education plan with initial test scores, and program assignments is prepared to guide the student’s progress.
Objectives: The purpose of the Foundation and Literacy class is to build a more solid knowledge base for those students with deficiencies in language, writing, and math. Emphasis is placed on learning basic skills in the three core areas so students will have continued academic success.
Student Requirements: Students will be placed in the Foundation and Literacy class with a T.A.B.E. test score of K.0- 3.9
Attendance: Students are expected to be in class every day. Students are expected to participate in class. During the course of each month, the student is allowed two (2) unexcused absences.
Overview: The students will use printed material as well as a computer-aided curriculum. The students will be tested quarterly to check progress. Tutors will be hired to improve the Teacher / Tutor to student ratio.
Objectives: The Purpose of the ABE class is to provide academic skills in reading, writing, and computation.
Student Requirements: Students will be placed in the ABE class with a T.A.B.E. test score of 4.0 - 7.9
Attendance: Students are expected to be in class every day. Students are expected to participate in class. During the course of each month, the student is allowed two (2) unexcused absences.
Overview: The students are instructed using methods most conducive to their academic success.
Objective: The GED class is designed for any inmate who does not have a high school diploma and is functioning at or above the 8.0 grade level. The Academic areas that are tested are writing skills, interpreting literature and the arts, science, social studies, and mathematics.
Student Requirements: Students will be placed in the GED class with a T.A.B.E. test score of 8.0 - 12.9.
Attendance: Students are expected to be in class every day. Students are expected to participate in class. During the course of each month, the student is allowed two (2) unexcused absences.
Overview: The students are instructed using methods most conducive to their academic success.
College / University classes from recognized post-secondary schools are available for students who have a high school diploma or GED. The education counselor provides administrative service such as monitoring for testing and videotape availability. Students are responsible for financing these programs.
Objective - ESL allows the Hispanic Community an opportunity to improve their written and verbal skills using English Language. There are no prerequisites for participating in the program. This is a voluntary, no-credit program. Certificates of improvement are given on a regular basis. All of our educational classes are incorporated with a computer program and named the Invest Program. This is a self-help educational program that begins at grade K and goes up to the 12th grade level.
ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS - this group coordinates support meetings which provide fellowship for men to share experience, strength, and hope to reach sobriety. Group meets on a weekly basis.
MARRIAGE COUNSELING - is a class designed for couples wishing to get married. The program covers improving parenting skills, stress management, and effective communication between spouses. Length of program is six (6) weeks.
ALCOHOL CHEMICAL TREATMENT SERIES (ACTS) - A.C.T.S. is a curriculum based self help, recovery and educational program. It is designed to help the individual or family deal with the problems associated with alcohol and chemical abuses. It encompasses the emotional, physical, and spiritual aspects of an individual and family. A.C.T.S. stresses the importance of the participant accepting responsibility for a successful recovery, and reinforces a positive character development.
