The purpose of the literacy class is to build a solid knowledge base for those students with deficiencies in language, writing, and math. Emphasis is placed on learning basic skills in the three core areas so students will have continued academic success. Students with a TABE assessment of below 6th grade level are eligible for literacy class.
The purpose of the ABE class is to provide instruction so students can attain at least an 8th grade equivalency on the TABE assessment in reading, writing, and computation. Students with a TABE assessment above 6th grade level and below 8th grade level will be placed in ABE.
The purpose of the High School Equivalency (GED) class is for any inmate who does not have a high school diploma or GED and is functioning at or above the 9.0 grade level
On site, telecourses, and correspondence college classes are available for students who have the financial means to enroll.
"Pen Pals, A New Leash on Life" , http://www.adoptatraineddog.com/ , is a dog program that teaches basic obedience training to dogs that are rescued, trained and adopted. The dogs and their handlers follow a strict curriculum which includes daily training classes.
PRIDE Residential Treatment Unit is a 9-12 month residential treatment program that operates from the principle that our thinking controls our behavior. A cognitive-behavioral curriculum is used to change anti-social thinking into pro-social thinking with a goal of developing pro-social behaviors.
The Life Skills class is designed to help the student focus on their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well being. The program is designed to acquaint each student with his present attitudes in these areas and to help them develop better skills for coping.
Kairos Horizon is a 10-month program that seeks to unite corrections and the faith community to achieve an inner transformation of an inmate and to prepare the inmate to live with others in mutual support, trust, and respect.
